I love my job. I really enjoy being a Case Manager. I feel very energized when I'm working in the community. I get a lot of job satisfaction because I am able to see the positive impact I am having on people's lives and how they can be sustained at home without being institutionalized and their rights are being respected.
Most of my clients are very appreciative and they realize they cannot do without the Community Care Access Centre’s help. I have some clients who have no social supports, and they're so lonely and are very welcoming when I make a home visit. Some of them don’t want me to leave after I have completed my assessment, so they will say, “Stay. Don't go.” You know, they just enjoy the company. They keep saying, “Come back anytime and if you're in the neighbourhood, just drop in.”
Case management is the most important part of my work. What I mean by Case Management is that apart from assessing the client we are connecting them to other services in the community. Many of our clients may not be familiar with the community resources that are available to support their needs. So the CCAC connects them to the appropriate community resources so that they are well supported and to ensure that every aspect of the client is well taken care of.
I love the fact that we have the autonomy to design a care plan jointly with our client after completing an assessment. We like our clients to be actively involved in the design of their care plan. It’s a wonderful experience for our clients to be involved in their care.
I love working at the CCAC and I like all of my colleagues because they are very caring people. They are very kind-hearted and many of them will go way beyond their call of duty to do whatever is necessary for their clients.
